Certified Criminal Trial Attorney William D. Ware
What Is a Certified Criminal Trial Lawyer?
William D. Ware is “Certified by the Supreme Court of New Jersey as a Criminal Trial Attorney.” Certified Criminal Trial Attorney is a designation granted by the New Jersey Supreme Court to attorneys who are able to demonstrate sufficient levels of experience, education, knowledge, and skill in criminal practice.
What does it mean when an attorney is certified?
A certified attorney is more than just an attorney who specializes in a particular area of law. A New Jersey attorney who is certified by the Supreme Court as a criminal trial attorney must have:
- Been a member in good standing of the New Jersey bar for over 5 years (Mr. Ware has been a member in good standing for over 10 years);
- Has been defense counsel in 10+ jury trials.
- Fulfilled ongoing continuing legal education requirements every year;
- Demonstrated a substantial level of experience in criminal trial law;
- Been favorably evaluated by other attorneys and judges familiar with his work; and
- Taken and passed a written examination in criminal trial law.
Attorney William D. Ware is one of approximately 250 lawyers in the State certified by the New Jersey Supreme Court as a criminal trial attorney. To put that number in perspective, there are over 80,000 lawyers in the State of New Jersey but only one half of 1 percent of attorneys in the State have this designation. Many of the Certified Criminal Trial Attorneys are in government service or are retired, so even fewer practice criminal defense law. Additionally, the certification must be renewed every five years. Therefore, Mr. Ware has to continue his education and keep up to date on today’s laws.
Non-certified or less experienced criminal defense lawyers often hire a Certified Criminal Trial Attorney to take important cases before a judge and jury.
Former Assistant County Prosecutor

He knows how the State investigates its cases, and, more importantly, the mistakes the State makes in its investigation. William D. Ware has exploited his knowledge and experience for his clients’ benefit resulting in extremely favorable results.
